Bugle Cricket

What a scortcha!

In complete contrast to last year’s wash out, this years’ John Merrick Sailing Trust cricket match was blessed with fantastic weather. As the temperatures soared, the spectators gathered to cheer on their pub of choice and to enjoy a day of traditional English village fun.

The Victory, The Olde Whyte Hart, The King & Queen and The Bugle were all represented with Stuarts’ team from the Whyte Hart, defending the highly contested title. From the start the standard of play was higher than ever, as The Bugle was soon to discover! Although our boys (plus Emma Westmacott) played some cracking cricket, The Bugle team just couldn‘t make the runs and we soon ended up in the play offs against The King & Queen for the Wooden Spoon.

The sound of willow on leather continued in to the afternoon with the defending champions taking on The Victory for the title. Congratulations go to the The Whyte Hart who won the match in true style.

As for The Bugle team, well, we came last but as Matt said “It’s all about the taking part, and coming 4th wasn’t so bad as everybody had such a great day”.

The best bit….. we raised a total of £2226.31 for the John Merricks Sailing Trust.

We’d like to thank everyone who came and supported this event whether you played, were a spectator, helped or donated. A special thanks goes to the following: Steve Smith at Scottish & Newcastle, Hugo’s drinks, Bees Marquees and Suzie Hammel who runs this event for the JMST.

Please contact us for information on forthcoming Summer events.
